Mastitis is an infection that affects women’s breast tissues and causes a swelling, redness, warmth and severe fever. This infection occurs mostly when the woman is breastfeeding within the first 6 to 12 weeks after giving birth. This condition makes it difficult for the patients to care for their babies since the pain on the affected breast is severe.

Significant cases of mastitis are thought to be caused by the milk stasis. Instances that can cause mastitis infection include when a baby is not correctly attached to the breast nipple when breastfeeding.

In this case, not enough milk will be removed from the breast, and this will result in milk build up and damage on the nipple. On the other hand, when a baby is having a problem sucking milk, it may increase the chances of the mother developing mastitis infection. Other cases include when you there is pressure on the breast, infrequent or missed feeds and when the baby is favoring one breast for breastfeeding.

Treatment of Mastitis

If a mother wants to treat the mastitis infection, she must ensure that the first line is self-help remedies such as ensuring that the baby is feeding properly and drain more milk from both breasts.

The woman can also visit a doctor for antibiotics to treat the mastitis infection and other techniques to treat the blocked breasts if that is the cause of the infection. However, the antibiotics are only recommended when the baby is not feeding, but if the baby is feeding, the woman should try non-medical remedies.

Prevention of Mastitis

One of the most frequent problems gynecologist encounter in practice is different manifestation of hormonal imbalance. There are two most common types: occasional lack of period and irregular bleedings. In this article, we are going to show you the connection between running and keeping the regular body weight and gynecological health of the women, primarily the good work of sex hormones.

What happens if your period is late?

The lack of period with young and healthy women is usually a sign of pregnancy. But what happens if you aren’t pregnant and your period is late? The only logical explanation is the hormonal disorder. The bleeding appears outside of menstrual cycle, which is more or less large, we will exclude some other conditions here, are sign that you have disorder with hormones.

Puberty is important period of time in life

This is a time when a person becomes sexually mature. A big physical and mental changes occur in the young person’s life. Endocrine glands are by their function closely connected and puberty is important because its appearance has a lot of to do with the function of hormones.

This is one of the most frequent causes of menstrual cycle disorder. This syndrome hits between 8 – 12 percent of women and more than 50% are overweight. Polycystic ovaries disturb normal way of life and can bring to sterility.

Fat tissue is partly endocrine organ

Fat tissue has a really important role in this aspect of the proper functioning of the body. Every person needs a fat tissue so that puberty can hit. It is proven fact that overweight girls early enter puberty stage than overweight boys. So, fat tissue, or some part of it, has a significant influence on the beginning of the puberty and further on the hormonal development of the woman.

The connection of endocrine glands

The work of all endocrine glands is closely connected and the leading role has hypothalamus, part of the brain that commands them all and hypophysis is under the hypothalamus. A small gland which is located at the base of the brain and in some way monitors the work of other glands. This is a fine and subtle mechanism of influences and we can’t say that everything has been researched in that field.

First line of treatment: regulating a diet and regular physical activity

Since we have all the fact and we know that reducing a body weight regulates polycystic ovaries condition. While we are running we increase the sensitivity on insulin and with that we improve the metabolism of fats, further we regulate the syndrome of polycystic ovaries and establish normal activity of hormones and menstrual cycle.

Simple solutions aren’t always easy ones

Hormonal effect on women’s addiction

Hormonal effect on women’s addiction

Posted by on Jun 4, 2016 in Addiction, Women's Health | 0 comments

Smoking remains number one risk factor of a wide collection of preventable diseases and the absolute winner among the most frequently used vices everywhere in the world. Modern lifestyle increased the number of women smokers exposing them to huge health risks since women tend to be more sensitive to hazardous effects of this bad habit than men. Women also have more difficulties when attempting to quit compared to men. To promote anti – smoking public health campaign and provide women with effective service and treatment when they decide to quit smoking, the group of scientists conducted the research exploring mechanisms and causes of addiction and their relation to natural hormonal changes in women.

The influence of hormonal fluctuations

Looking for the appropriate and effective ways to design individualized approach and treatment for women smokers, a team of researchers from Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania analyzed the influence of hormonal fluctuations during the regular menstrual cycle in women on the intensity of their addiction and their chances to quit smoking and stick to the decision. The study was published in “Biology of sex differences” journal revealing quite interesting results. The study included 38 participants, healthy premenopausal women smokers ages 21 to 51. The condition was that neither one of them was currently using hormonal contraceptive therapy. All women were subjected to functional MRI scanning. The researchers were examining functional connections between cortical regions of the brain involved with behavior control and process of decision making and regions involved with the sense of reward.

Hormones affect women’s decisions

brain-1293313_1280The mere process of smoking, as well as all so-called “appetitive reminders” – all things, places, rituals, even people that particular women associated with consuming cigarettes – were categorized as signals for triggering brain region involved with the sense of reward.  The major assumption of the research was that natural fluctuation and changes in hormonal concentrations during menstrual cycle affect women’s affinity towards various vices and raise their risk of recidivism if trying to quit smoking. The hypothesis was that these hormonal influences affect how women react to awards and how they make decisions regarding these kinds of rewards.

Follicular phase – high risk for addictive behavior

woman-918616_1920The women were divided into a group of women who were in their follicular phase of the cycle at the moment and the second group of women who were in the luteal phase. Two groups showed different results suggesting that estrogen, which is dominant hormone in the follicular phase affected behavior differently than progesterone, which dominates during the luteal phase. These hormones affect neural processes and connection between cognitive regions of the brain and “reward” regions of the brain in a different manner. The conclusion of the research showed that follicular phase is the period of the month when women are at higher risk of succumbing to addictive behavior and using of tobacco. Opposed to that, progesterone appeared to be protecting women from relapsing in the case they tried to quit smoking.

This means that female smokers have a better chance of succeeding in quitting smoking if they “time” their decision according to the “progesterone” period in a month.
